Chunky paper jewellery

Recently a friend and I had a go at making papier mache beads. We thought we’d model them on my favourite glass necklace.

We spent long, therapeutic hours moulding and smoothing the shapes then after a week’s drying we carefully pierced each one with a knitting needle. They were quite beautiful in that state, so full of promise, then we painted them and whatever we tried they looked terrible. My friend returned to her other artwork and I set up this website instead.

That’s why I was so amazed (and envious) when I came across these paper beads made by Phiona Richards who calls herself a “paper artist”.

wonderful paper beads

I haven’t a clue how these beads are made, I just know they look stunning. Is anyone else making anything like this. Drop me a line at info@bigchunkyjewellery.co.uk if you know of anyone you’d like to tell other people about.
