Chunky glass jewellery

chunky glass jewelleryIsn’t this just beautiful? It’s a ring made by Joanna Young of Fired Up Jewellery in Bristol.

It’s dichroic glass and no, I’d not heard of that either. Pronounced die-crow-ick it simply means “two colour”. I don’t really understand the technicalities of the process Joanna describes(science always loses me) but I understand what she says about the effect – that it reflects one colour and transmits another, to produce vivid shimmering colours that change as you tilt the ring.  Joanna likens these to beetles’ and butterflies’ wings – beetles sadly aren’t that exotic in my garden but butterflies’ wings certainly.

The ring is 26mm x 26mm and has a red base overlaid with contrasting dark blue dots. Not all the pieces are big, but they’re all stunning. Besides rings, there’s a wide selection of pendants, all very reasonably priced for something that’s handmade. Enjoy.
