Liking to be beside the seaside cont.

Following on from the beach hut pins last week, and how you feel about the sea when you grow up seeing it only rarely: a friend was recounting the visit of two small children recently who live a long way from the sea. The one year old plunged straight in, up to his neck. The five year old was more anxious – “There’s too much water, Aunty Carol”, she said plaintively, ” I don’t know what to do with it all!”

That set me thinking about other jewellery that’s a reminder of the sea. This limited edition necklace for instance from Sally Gray Jewellery Design has been made in silver from a cast of a mussel shell, and finished with freshwater pearls and Swarovski crystals. It costs £79 from Not On The High Street and there’s a similar bracelet at £49.

Also from Not On The High Street come these earrings again made from the cast of a shell, but this time with fish added, coloured with resin. They cost £30 and you can choose what colour fish you’d like from this blue, or turquoise, yellow, lilac or green. The earrings are made by Alison Baxter who lives by the sea in West Sussex where she creates striking but affordable jewellery.

The fish show the sense of fun Alison brings to creating jewellery. Look out too for her silver earrings of dancing people.
